Uncovering Happiness

Achieving happiness is more about sustainability than the actual pursuit. I might be wrong, and perhaps it’s actually about being comfortable with what makes you happy and not letting outside forces push you toward what’s popular. Either way, I don’t believe that people are unaware of what genuinely makes them feel good or “happy.” Either you know, and you’re not comfortable with sharing those factors, or they don’t sound extravagant, so you say you don’t know out of self-consciousness. First things first, to start your pursuit or journey you need to be picky about the people you surround yourself with.

You have to distinguish good people from toxic people. Give it some time or wait for the first disagreement to see what type of person you’re going to be around. Or understand those good/healthy relationships are boring in a certain way. They’re not going to make you ask 101 questions about yourself or what you’re doing. Once you choose the right people for yourself: You have to figure out what to put the rest of your energy towards. Such focus could eventually lead toward developing your hobbies and other passions. Do whatever you want with your desires. They’re yours, but don’t turn the things you love into sources of stress. Use them to express yourself in multiple ways. Don’t let people dislike, discomfort or bother you, because whether or not they dislike doesn’t matter. Because you love doing something is what matters most.

Balance and appreciation are the keys to life for a reason. You must find time to relax. In my opinion, everyone should have a passion for relaxation, including exploring activities that are relaxing. Life can be draining because of the ups and downs we all have to go through: it doesn’t matter how happy you are. Then you have to start being grateful for the things you have. Otherwise, you begin to chase the next rush, which will draw you into a never-ending cycle of seeking. We all have to find peace with where we are at and with who we are. Take time to enjoy the fruits of your labor and the small things in life. Look at every opportunity or missed opportunity in a positive light.

For me, sustaining happiness will always be more complicated than pursuing it. At the end of the day, we all need to learn to take time to feel enjoyment (or at least presence) in everything we experience. Real happiness feels like contentment, which sounds terrible to some people. Being content with everything means not feeling the need to rush toward improvement because everyone and everything is in the right place for you.
