Why My 2019 is Going to Suck Bigtime

for Medium readers who enjoy the goals more than the work

I’ve been curating my Medium feed, trying to train the algos that drive articles to my Inbox to send me only the things that interest and inspire me, and it might be that Medium is getting better because last week Medium fed me a number of articles that felt important.

It doesn’t take 8 years for change (Chu) or even five months (van Doorn). In the few days between “Awesome…” and “Struggling…” Maguire’s thinking seems to have reversed, and it’s left me wondering: What happened?

I started thinking, what if I rewrote Maguire’s column about his awesome future into a new article for myself called “Why Next Year is Going to Suck Bigtime”? Would that inoculate me against my own future struggles?

I can’t bring myself to actually write the article. Instead, I’ve noticed a few things about Maguire’s “Awesome…” article that, in retrospect, might have been setting himself up for a mood swing.
