See Your Goals As Chemical Reactions to Make Them More Manageable

Finding a catalyst

Do you ever feel like there’s a big hump and barrier separating you from where you are and where you want to be? I do, all the time. And an analogy of chemistry makes me realize how I can get where I want to be. Too much self-help offers easy solutions to complex problems, advice we’ve heard over and over again. I’m tired of people telling me to use the Pomodoro Technique, the Pareto Principle, or to wake up at 5 a.m. every day as if these ideas were not a rehashing of recycled productivity hacks all over the Internet.

What helps me is seeing different parts as analogies — seeing my workweek like a week of training as a runner is one, but recently I have also started to see goals as chemical reactions.
